Do NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) give protections to ideas and concepts?

If I have a product idea, but it's not extremely specific (say a new type of cracker with women as the target audience),. Would a NDA protect my idea when I presented the concept to possible buyers? Could the potential buyer make the idea by themself and then argue that he already had the idea before talking to me?
