Need ideas for a October vacation with the family. We're leaving from Phx.?

We would like something in AZ, CA, or northwest. More relaxing, cool weather, maybe beach or nice green forest hiking. Perhaps off the beaten path. No Disneyland type thing this go around. For 4 nights. Just not sure where to go.
